As clean as a whistle., 2009-09-23This is one of the smaller Take Along Thomas sets. The Sodor Engine Works opens out (it is hinged at the side) and a small circular track (4 pieces) runs between the two doorways. One of the doorways has two cylindrical washing columns (like those at a car-wash) and you push trains along the track and through the cleaning columns - the included Percy is speckled to give it the appearance of being dirty.
Once disassembled, the track and Percy all fit in the Engine Works to ensure that this really is "Take Along". The Engine Works looks great and is very solid, the only concern I would have is that the train cleaner you push the engines through are foam covered and I don't think it would take much to tear the foam, it would then only be a matter of time before it comes off altogether. Even if that does happen though - the train cleaner is screwed on and if you have a screwdriver with a triangular end it could be removed and the set would still be a great one.
In a nutshell: As with the other new Take Along Thomas sets in the range, this can be attached to any other tracks/sets (it comes with adaptors to connect to the old style track) and the build quality is top notch apart from the foam train washers which will probably be out-lived by the rest of the set. If you want a smaller set to take with you when travelling or visiting, then this is probably the most compact set available, but as the track is simply a small circular one - ideally it would be used alongside other track when at home.
