Top Class Family Entertainment!, 2007-11-17Family were a band that consistently punched above their weight, right from their incredible first album 'Music In A Doll's House' right through to their masterpiece 'Bandstand' and on to their swansong 'It's Only A Movie'. The musicianship was superb, sometimes bordering on the burlesque (the title of one of their best songs and included in this generous 37-track double CD). Roger Chapman's vocals could range from a gritty, bluesy howl (as in 'Drowned in Wine') to a gentle, melodic and quite beautiful performance (as in 'My Friend The Sun'). There is much to enjoy here - the band gave you much to enjoy, particularly their rip-roaring live performances. Family is a band well worth exploring. Their back catalogue is pure gold and this excellent collection would be a very good place to start. Highly recommended.
