This novel tells the story about a special friendship between two women - Lily and Snow Flower - in old China. This friendship begins in their early childhood by the intervention of a matchmaker. The fate of the girls are completely different: Lily marries a rich and influential First son and becomes the Lady of a very important house. Snow Flower's family is ruined by decadence and drugs, so she has to marry a butcher, a social outlaw.

"Snow Flower" is the story of a deep friendship and about failures through human "hybris", about mistakes that cannot be undone. Lisa see gives up a lively picture of ancient China, its colors, rites, smells, allday-life and its brutal traditions like foot-binding. I really loved this book because of its intense atmosphere and the fascinating characters.
