UPDATED JUNE 2009

Normally my reviews about products are quite positive - I hate to admit that that I've made a mistake. However, in the case of this device, I will make an exception.

The quality of the reception, particularly on FM is very poor and the radio has great difficulty in picking up stations that a nearby radio finds no problem locking onto.

Don't be fooled by the digital dispaly. This is pure analogue tuning and there is no PPL tuning, and there isn't any kind of search for stations. Once you've found your station, expect the radio to drift off frequency, just enough to annoy you.

The aerial on both units (the first one was dead on arrival - all credit to Amazon for replacing it so quickly), is floppy and lacks any kind of impression that it is going to last any significant time.

Finally, the illuminated display is useless in the dark. The light comes from the left hand side of the display and miserably fails to illuminate enough of the display to allow you to see the time in the night.

In my original review, I said that I couldn't recommend a suitable alternative. I have now bought a Roberts R9968 radio (ROBERTS R9968 TRAVELLING LITE 2 PLL SYNTHESISED WORLD RADIO)which is really good and solves all the problems that I found with this Scott radio. It has PPL tuning, a decent backlight and a wide selection of bands (including short wave that works well outside of the UK).
