There are so many reasons why the Roman Empire fell. I don`t think any one book can have all the answers to such a vast question.
Ward-Perkins details the disappearance of many common household products, at the end of the Roman Empire. He also points out that coined money also stopped being used. He wants to point out that the prosperity of the Roman economy was simply collapsing.
Ward-Perkins does a good job of explaining how various theories explaining the fall of Rome, have gone in and out fashion.
