Great fun!, 2009-10-06Anime Studio 6 Debut is a terrific application for learning about basic 2D animation.
After going through the tutorials I was quickly up and running in less than an hour. The tutorials were informative and easy to follow, demonstrating the fundamental concepts of the tools. This would be a wonderful teaching program for kids because it is simple in its presentation and allows the user to quickly get into the fun of animation without a huge learning curve. Absolute beginners may find the concept of layers a bit difficult at first but it's not overwhelming by any means.
This application does not have the bells and whistles of Maya or even the Pro version of Anime Studio but it has enough tools to be useful in deciding if animation is for you. If a person needs more than the tools presented here, they are probably professionals in the first place.
I would have rated this five stars but the guides are PDF instead of "in-game" so I had to Alt-tab between the PDFs and the program. Also would recommend an easier to comprehend study of the layers. Being experienced with Photoshop, I had no problems but could see a beginner would struggle.
