does not even know today how played he was by Carolyn Bessette! Carolyn was no innocent. She worked in Boston nightclubs for years before she landed in NYC. Carolyn Bessette was a girl with a social climbing, gold digger agenda. She was narcissistic and obsessed with control of everyone and everything around her. Carolyn became entranced with Michael Bergin - a genuinely nice guy who happened to be gorgeous. He was not quite her speed socially, however, so she set out to "groom" him. Their relationship was volatile because Carolyn could not reconcile her need for status versus her attraction to Michael's love for her. Then, in walks poor innocent JFK Jr., on the heels of his mother's death, and searching for a "suitable" mate. Carolyn reinvents herself into an upscale Darryl Hannah and bewitches poor JFK Jr. into marriage. Michael had more humanity for "John Jr." than Carolyn ever did, and eventually, John figured it all out for himself. He knew his marriage to Carolyn was a huge mistake and a disaster. Yes, Carolyn was quite toxic in her machinations. Carolyn was an operator but she landed WAY over her head. John was an incredible person who never deserved any of this nonsense. He too was a very nice guy who deserved the very best from people. It is heartbreaking that John's life was so tragically affected by such a dishonorable person.
