Personally, I found the original DVD release of Fantasia highly disappointing. The resolution was grainy and the soundtrack simply wasn't the glorious multi-channel affair that accompanied the 70mm restoration release (I can cite specific instances, such as the stunning church bell effect at the conclusion of Night on Bald Mountain, which caused every head in the theater to jerk to the side trying to spot that "live" bell player! And where's that big crescendo in the low strings *underneath* the bell??). More like limp 2-channel. The DVD was also released in 5.0 DD, which means bass response - excellent in the theater - didn't stand a chance.
To be honest, the couple of short "censored" scenes bothered me only because they were, in fact, censored - I recall seeing a far more offensive example of heavy-handed hacking and hewing on the Disney Channel some years ago when they showed 20,000 Leagues.
I'll be most interested in what this upcoming Blu-Ray release has to offer in the A/V department. I'm confident the video will be stunning, but the audio??
