Who says so? THEY do-the critics who suddenly woke up after years of being bombasted with boring prog rock and boring AOR.Somehow these same critics realised that punk was in line of descent from the Garage band even though the 60s garage band was musically superior.
Course Garage is just a generic title to give the music which was America's answer to the British Invasion.The Knickerbockers and the Turtles probably never began in the garage-they were there before the Invasion playing Surf music
Yet even here there's things which never deserved this high placing on the Bible of Garagedom.I mean how did a non song like Moulty get in there?
I know the Castaways'Liar Liar was a hit but God knows why-I mean its pretty ratty isn't it?
The 4 CD set of Nuggets contains not only the original selection but a whole lot more besides most of which is worth more than Moulty.
The CD Age has seen just about every garage band in the States represented -series like Pebbles,Teenage Shutdown and Battle of the Bands.
The Garage Hangover website is full of mp3s to download-full versions as well.
Its really a bottomless well as even some of the demo stuff submitted is of a higher standard than the Castaways and Barbarians
