an enjoyable romp of a read2002-10-18
Highland Bride carries forward the story of the Murray family neatly introducing the younger members of the clan with just enough detail to catch your attention and leave you in anticipation of the next in the series. Even though this story can be read as a stand alone it would be very hard not to wonder about the characters with their stories already told and those yet to come.
Gillyanne Murray inherits land and decides to go and see it. She finds herself having to choose one of her three neighbours to marry in an effort to keep the fragile peace in a place that has known too much war. Why she chooses Sir Connor MacEnroy and his clan, for in a book by Hannah Howell almost every character is as enjoyable as the main protagonists. And then goes about the chore of actually making the situation work and setting in motion the oppertunity to clear up and deal with the problems that have been frustrating the hero.
Reading any book by Hannah Howell is always a pleasure and though they mostly follow the same formula it is one that is familiar and enjoyed by her fans. The too good to be true (as in I wish I were that good a person )heroine who manages to inject humour and courage into every word and deed.Still managing to look gorgeous when dragged through not one but a host of hedges and various other calamaties. And the hero, what a man. Strong and capable of sweeping a girl of her feet and with a lovely sense of humour though it usually takes the heroint to bring it out.

Can't wait for the next addition to the series. I loved all of the others too.
