A JOYFUL SCREAM FROM THE SUBURBS, 2001-04-14This stuff is banal, silly, primitive and about as much fun as music gets. The antithesis of 'serious artistry'; bypass the lyrics, which don't get deep, and find life-affirming excitement in three or four chords. The experimentation was limited by how much stuff these brattish types could get their hands on in 1966, but from these basic instruments come a storm of mindblowing fuzz earwash. 'Louie Louie' aside (remaining one of the JUST GREATEST tin-pot joyous teen anthems of all time), this CD contains the finest that spoilt Yanks had to offer, before the dreary hippies washed it all away with their drippy sentimentalism and overblown pomp.
